What to expect with Corten Steel Your planter will arrive in its "raw" state (grey/silver steel). It does not come pre-rusted. This is normal!
The Weathering Process:
Weeks 1-4: As the steel is exposed to rain and dew, it will begin to turn a mottled orange.
Month 2-4: The colour will deepen into a rich, dark terracotta.
Fully Cured: Over roughly 6 months, the "patina" stabilizes and creates a protective barrier that prevents corrosion.
Pro Tip: How to speed it up Want the rustic look instantly? You can accelerate the process by spraying the planter with a mixture of water, salt, and white vinegar. Spray it daily and let it dry; you will see results in just a few hours.
Important Note on Staining: During the first few weeks of weathering, "rust runoff" can occur. If placing these on expensive tiles, concrete, or decking, we recommend weathering them on a lawn or gravel area first before moving them to their final position to avoid staining your pavers.
